It's not exactly The Perfect Mess, but I'm working on it.

  • Digsby FTW!

I use a lot of IM clients. Both for work and what little social life I have. Googletalk, MSN, Yahoo, AIM, ICQ, and Skype. .. That's a lot of chat clients to be running all separately. I've tried Trillian, and just never really liked how it didn't integrate enough with the clients. I couldn't send files, sms's, emails or make Internet calls from it. AND it made me PAY! I never thought it was worth forking out some monies for.

imageWelcome Digsby. This FREE app is absolutely beautiful! Currently, I'm connected to my yahoo, msn, gmail, icq and aim IM networks. It also connects to any email account POP or IMAP as well as Facebook and Myspace. It's interface is fast and not in my face, uses tabbed communication windows so I don’t have a thousand different IM windows up and I can drag and drop tabs in and out of tabbed windows to separate convos.  The Developer support is truely amazing as well. They make many updates and keep you aware of any issue that you may or may not be having with a simple system message and on their blog. Needless to say, I'm very impressed.

It doesn't have support for Skype or voice over IP for phone calls, but I can send emails, files and sms. It's a great start for a very confusing problem. It actually improves productivity because you don't have to go to a browser for mail of for the lame social network checkups.

meebo is another great resource to use for your IM needs. It's 100% webbased so you can use it on anyone's computer without having to install crap. It's VERY handy.

  • The Cluttered but COOL Cubicle of teh Ryan

So one of my many favorite resources for productivity and GTD on the web is having a contest for the coolest cubicle. Lifehacker.com is a website that I frequent constantly for awesome bits of how to hack real life into a better real life. .. No, I'm not going to win, but I submitted anyway. Maybe they'll have pitty on the fact that it is so cluttered, I could use some help in organizing it better?

  • Gloomy Monday

Well, happy Monday! I guess. it's pretty gloomy outside my window today. The weekend was nice, like most weekends I didn't get out, but it was nice enough to open the windows to have the fresh air breeze through the flat. Mellow was the weekend.

    Looking out the gloomy window

I didn't even get on my computer this weekend and game! I told myself that instead of wasting time sitting at the desk grinding some VL xp, I needed to finally organize some things in the place. That's what I did most of Saturday. Sunday, I grilled up a little salmon, had a nice dinner and watched 'The Diving Bell and the Butterfly'. Maybe I was just in an Emo mood, but dang that movie was great! I practically sobbed through the whole thing. If you don't mind reading a movie, it's definitely worth the viewing. It almost makes me wish I knew French. It tells the true story of a man who has a stroke and ends up being totally paralyzed with only the ability to move one eye. He goes on to write a Memoir of his Life in Death. It feels like a horror movie in some ways but leaves you with a different, healthy perspective. A good way to end the mellow weekend.
  • It Begins!

Weigh-in today. I actually weigh a little less than my last weigh in Friday. I didn't pork out over the weekend and i guess it shows. I didn't exercise either though. That's what I gotta start doing now. And how on earth am I going to stay motivated when I heart my couch and desk chair so much!?

Well, there are a lot of resources out there to encourage better living. Being more conscious of it by work and friend conversations is a very good one that we're banking on for this contest. There are a multitude of websites out there also. Here's two for your Monday linkage pleasure:

ZenHabits.net I found this site the last part of '07 and immediately was intrigued with how intuitive the posts are and the concept of a 'virtual' support group that you see in their forums. ZenHabits tries to motivate it's readers to create monthly goals and further encourages you to post in their forums daily on how you're daily goals are going. Check out their forums, it's really cool how ppl can be motivated by a bunch of anonymous posters.

Joe's Goals "Inspired somewhat by Benjamin Franklin's 13 Virtues, I built Joe's Goals to make it stupidly simple to create, track, and share your personal goals. It is a productivity application that is actually easy enough to use."

For instance, I'm using it to track how well I'm doing with not having to hit the snooze button this month! Get inspired by checking out other's Goals.

  • Spring Fitness Fest

008So it's pretty obvious that my last effort to get in shape ended in failure. I've been noticing lately how out-of-shape I'm in and been trying to find motivation somehow to start working out. It's been years and years since I was the active Ryan that would run/bike and get out.

My last scale just died, it's the one I was using in the office for our little contest over the holidays. I bought a new one this week and it's had quite the little buzz within the office. It can only best be described as the scale terminator would use if it had a weight problem. This thing is fun.

In fact it's inspired a company wide competition with prizes totaling $700 to those who lose the most body weight and body fat percentages!
