  • He's Dead

Over 1 million people died because of this A-hole and his ignorant hate. .. I wonder what he thinks about that now that he has a full knowledge of what he did with his time living on earth. ...

You can be against the war in Iraq. But can you defend why this person should have stayed in power? I would love a conversation with anyone with a decent understanding of basic human morality that insists the US should have left him in power. (i say this presuming that you at least have a clue of what he did while in power) ... Say what you will, but if you have any sort of logic in you, and still think you can argue against getting rid of Saddam, i would LOVE to hear from you.

(comments/flames welcome) ... although, not expected.

  • 'Somalia Briefly'

It's early.. i can't sleep. A lot on the mind lately.. the news is always a fun distraction, i had a rant in the making about Ethiopia and Somalia and all of what's happened this last week. But Ze does it so much more eloquently:

  • Blood Diamonds (a lame review/rant)

I hope the 3.5 readers of wooties enjoyed the holidays.. i spent most of it off-grid.. well, tried anyway, at least i got some movie watching in!

I just got done watching 'Blood Diamond' sitting here on my couch.. (last night, .. yay darknets!) Leonardo DiCaprio's African accent is horrible, but he does play the white majority in SA accurate according to the time i've spent there. .. But aside from that, the movie aint bad. ... It brought to mind several things. One, it brings back some interesting thoughts about my time in South Africa. Two, it pretty much confirms my views of those dumb rocks.

I spent 1/3 of this year in South Africa. The time i wasn't working (which wasn't a whole lot) i spent learning African culture and history. Going to Museums, visiting people and talking about the past. Despite some of the beautiful landscapes and people, the continent as a whole remains quite an ugly place. Ugly, as in a showcase of conflicts, suffering and down right evil humanity. It seems almost everyday there is some issue or horrid tragedy happening in Africa on the news. It seems it's a cursed continent. Sad, but it's a reality.

Anyone who knows me, knows that i'm a cynic. I'm a realist. If you want someone to construe a silver lining to every dark cloud, you'll definitely look elsewhere. .... So diamonds are easy picking for me.

First and foremost, It's just a ROCK. .. yet millions go into debt to buy them for their loved/lusted ones.. and for what? One word, Vanity. (it is just compressed dirt after all)

It's a symbol of 'love' .. love of what? $? gluttony? Or maybe i'm just too ugly to win over the love of a woman, but a big fat rock on her finger would prolly seal the deal. It's funny to hear girlfriends converse over the 'engagement ring'. .. lots of fuss over a useless speck of earth..

I wish someone would give me some sort of logical reason why so many people go into debt to buy a silly piece of earth. .. Well, i guess that rock is just a symbol of 'i don't know how many things i could bring up' ... too many reasons against it. .. so i just won't. The movie Blood Diamond brings one or two issues to mind, but not all of them for sure. One thing, .. if i do ever find a wife, she won't be wearing a natural diamond wedding ring. (this not inspired by the silly movie, it's something i've brought up for years now).. and prolly one of the many, many reason's i'll remain single.

A good and accurate movie. Worth watching.

There are so many links i found about conflict diamonds, i'm not even going to link any of them.

  • Good Riddance: 109th Congress.

Well, Congress has proved itself more and more useless over the years. The 109th Congress was a part of one of the more crucial times in the history of the US. .. and it's just full of n00bs who didn't want to work or resolve a dang thing.

They did pass some important bills though:

"We passed legislation securing the right to prayer in U.S. military academies.

"We passed legislation protecting the Mount Soledad Memorial Cross.

"We passed the Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act, which allows for the 10- fold increase of FCC fines for indecency violations.

"We passed Cord blood legislation that harnesses the power of stem cells in cord blood to develop new cures for life-threatening diseases.

"We passed the Fetus Farming Prohibition Act, which prohibits the gestation of fetal tissue in order to use it for research.

"We passed the Stem Cell Research Alternatives bill, which provides federal funding for a variety of stem cell research that do not involve destroying human embryos."

They worked hard, those Congress men and women.. They worked 3 out of every 7 days in the week. They learned to roll over and play dead pretty well though, good thing they could show they still could learn. After all, they were good at proving some important Math theories.. Nothing from nothing leaves nothing.

    Jon Stewart puts it best:

  • Vista Activation Servers Pirated, say 'yarrgh'

Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later. Hacks came out very quickly after Vista went to 'RTM' status. That's always bound to happen, but now pirated copies of the actual activation servers!? I didn't think that would happen this soon. If you're not familiar with how Activation processes work for software nowadays, it's pretty simple. Your software pings a server that then validates your cd key, and replies with an activation code, and activates said software. Sounds fun.. maybe i'll try this out as my weekend project this week. Devil

Well, now i guess that can be changed to something like this:

But for the record, don't be a Pirate kids! Don't steal from the internets.

  • Keeping the Species Alive

Gizmodo, one of my favorite tech blogs has an entry today that made me 'lol'. It goes along with my 'Single for the Holidays' post below. It's a poll on how to keep the geek species propagating. Here's the poll: Go here for the article and to vote.

How do you handle your gadget fetish with your significant other?
    • I give her gadgets as gifts in the hope of unlocking a heretofore unknown passion.
    • I talk incessantly about technology until she either breaks down and agrees to talk about it or leaves me.
    • I pretend like I don't know the difference between a Core 2 Duo and a Oreo Cookie lest she thinks I'm a geek and decides to leave me for some jock asshole.
    • I made a formal agreement with her to discuss my tech-related interests half of the time and whatever boring stuff she cares about the rest of the time.
    • My girlfriend/wife cares about the same things that I do because I chose my mate based on characteristics other than the shallow and insignificant ones that lead to the high divorce rate in this country.
    • The only girls I ever interact with are bikini-clad night elves in World of Warcraft, and I'm pretty sure most of them are actually dudes anyways.
    • I am a girl, you sexist jerks.
    • I am a robot and was not programmed to feel emotions, therefore I have no need for companionship.

    ****other SAD news****

Rest in Peace, James Kim. I always enjoyed your reviews. It's a Terrible loss.
