There’s a Bunch of People Dancing and I Don’t Know Why
the net is lame. I tried to post this vid earlier by uploading it to revver.com (like the ze vids below) so that it was quicker than me hosting it myself. It got denied. here's what they said:
Dear Ryan,
When a video shows people dancing then the music is integral to the
video. Because Revver pays content contributors, this is considered a
commercial use. Therefore, any uncleared commercial music in your
video is not acceptable for our platform. We do like your video, so
perhaps you can replace the music with royalty-free tracks. In our FAQs
you'll find a list of some sites offering royalty-free music --
http://one.revver.com/go/faq
-- but there are definitely other options.
Thank you for understanding.
... You've got to be kidding me.. that video is HORRIBLE. Is the music even audible? (horrid vid, but i had to compress it for youtube to load it 'cause of bandwidth issues)
Anyway, I did get to relax a little last weekend. I should have left the cam on Yasmin at least a little bit. But she gets annoyed at me when i take pictures of her.
This next weekend should include another fun flight around Jo'burg. I guess i'll have to make sure the camera is charged up.
Wooties for South Africa!
Well, i boarded a plane in SLC at 8AM Tuesday morning, 24 hours and one LONG cramped, movie-less flight later I arrived in my favorite African country, South Africa. I'm sitting outside in the beautiful warm night air at one of my favorite restaurants where I have made good friends with all the waiters, and it was nice to see their reactions when i walked in. I've traveled here quite often in the last 2 years. I've lost count of how many times i've come here actually. this is trip 8 or 9.. I don't want to take the time to count it out.
There is always a lot of work when i come here, but it is also a nice change of pace from my normal life back home. Those that know me, know that i'm quite the recluse (mainly, because people in general, suck). It feels like i have more of a life here than back at home. Back home I work, go back to my flat, eat, work, then sleep. Heck, i don't even know who my neighbors are!
Anyway, sufficeth to say, that sometimes this recluse enjoys the time out of the cave.
Ah, Ze.. You’ll be missed.
I meant to mention this last Saturday.. but things have been busy. (you can tell because it's almost 4:30 AM and i still haven't been to bed yet) .. and I leave for the airport in less than 1.5 hours. .. yay.
Sunday Ironing Party!
.. So I've worked something like 40 hours since Friday afternoon and it's only Sunday night. Plus I found out last Wednesday that I'm off to South Africa again. THIS TUESDAY! .. nice that I have some time to get ready after this work weekend. heheh. oh well. Now it's time to iron my heart out, just to pack them so they can get some more wrinkles. (good thing I've done this plenty of times)
Ironing sucks. (2 hours worth of it!).Honestly every weekend where I find myself ironing like this, I wonder why I don't just take my clothes to the dry-cleaners. .. or hire a maid or something. -BTW, that's not pr0n on the tele, it's a commercial. I promise!
A Wootious Woman for teh ryan? (lol!)
I don't know how, but it seems that ryan being single has become a project of sorts. .. to several different people lately. And I'm not sure how to interpret it. .. Ok so it's been.. .. well. A good number of years since I've been in a real relationship. Maybe it's my all women are 'ticks and leeches' philosophy or just my usual bitter attitude .. I dunno. Co-workers have always tried to set me up, and continue trying (as I keep denying the set-ups). .. A comment from one of my good friends (Bl00k) this week to me: 'When it says, " i luv teh internets" under your picture and you say that your computer is yearning for you at home, I think it's time you get out and meet some women.' Then later that SAME day, I see a digg article about some ghey website for nerds who don't know how to meet women.. And I actually related a little to that article (seriously, how pathetic is that?). I do suffer from the 'terminal nice guy disease'. But I'm no doormat either.
I don't feel like I have to act like someone I'm not, just to score someone to hang out with. I've done that before in the past and it's lame (but I did get the chicks..) Just shows how shallow people can be though. Improving or building on yourself, however, may be the way to go if you see areas where you could improve or whatever. .. I say Be yourself, even if it doesn't get you where acting like someone else would. Dating is over-rated anyway.
iMonday YouTube/linkage fun
Bummer, I was hoping the iRack was a different kind of 'rack' heheheh. Man, I need to get out more.
Pushover Politics (Another Wooties WTF moment)
I'm sticking with the green theme a little longer.. just so that people think I'm sensitive to the earth, and that I buy energy saving lightbulbs. (i'm sure to score a date for it .. ) 'sure' isn't exactly the word there.. Anyway, on to Politics!
Moveon.org is a far left organization. if you think it's mainstream.. well. you really need to get out more. Read the history if you you are under any delusion of what this .org stands for. (it's a huge source of ammo for Repubs and Dems alike)
Seems the dems have caved into this Internet group. For reasons that honestly boggle my mind. I mean WTF? Why would you avoid a venue where you can try and win influence over the audience of your opponents? I watch every television news that I can find. I try and hit international news sites and shows like BBC, Aljazeera, Reuters.. etc.I use the net to get a good overall picture of news organizations and their views (from ALL sides). fox News does lean towards the right but it's by no means an extreme. Not even close to the sorts like Moveon.org.
Anyway, if I were a dem. I would fight to get to the more right networks. To talk, prove my point and defend my agenda. Avoiding it does nothing but say that you are scared, ignorant, or a political puppet.
Weak.. VERY weak. I would like a logical liberal opinion on the subject. But they're hard to find. .. all I can find is cry's of how right the FOX news is. Yet specific examples and cases are hard to find. (BTW, bring it friends: I can point to several instances of every station and it's bias opinions towards one side or the other.)
News is like that. After all, reporters have their point of view also. But if you are a presidential candidate and don't even have the fortitude to debate where you could actually reach out to those of the other parties and expand your voter base.. you get no Wootious respect whatsoever. Especially if you can be influenced by such a small section of your base like movon.org. (if that is your base.. you're in trouble)
John Edwards' blog:"It's time to send a clear message to Fox News and their allies that
their right-wing talking points and temper tantrums won't go
unchallenged anymore" hahahah so you're challenging them by avoiding them? .. yeah, that shows some real huevos.
Kucinich.com: “it’s an insult to the voters, and the height of cynicism, for
candidates to refuse to take the public stage and subject themselves to
public scrutiny.” (He's a Democrat if you didn't know)
reviewjournal.com:"The approach of outfits such as MoveOn.org is so juvenile it's
laughable. Imagine if every political organization created litmus tests
for news organizations before agreeing to appear on their programming.
Republicans would have boycotted PBS, CBS, NBC, ABC, National Public
Radio and The Associated Press decades ago." lol, it's like watching a bunch of special ED kids argue. Man, politicians are IDIOTS.
DISCLAIMER: (People with special needs are NOT to be lol'd at. I said that with the intention to point out how retarded politicians are (within context). Those who truly suffer from nature's debilitating circumstances should NEVER be made fun of) EVER.
Global Warming: A Wootious Warning!
UPDATE: lol. PETA is STUPID (but makes a surprisingly good point)
GLOBAL WARMING! aaaaaarrrgh WE'RE ALL GOING TO MELT AND DIE!!
Ok, so now that I have that out of the way, you'd have to be blind and deaf to have not heard about Global Warming. It's largely a political point but has a large impact as an environmental issue as well (duh). The Right tends to blow it off, and the Left tends to use the Right's POV as fuel about how narrow minded the Right is. But frankly, this whole 'THE WORLD IS ENDING!' thing has gotten on my nerves.
I watched Gore's Inconvenient Truth a while ago. If you haven't watched it, remember what Gore himself has stated about the film:
"I believe it is appropriate to have an over-representation of factual presentations on how dangerous [global warming] is."
- Al Gore
I think that Al's comment above is important to note and keep in context while watching the documentary. The movie does have some good points but, it also has some faults (Many, actually.) I'll only hit the biggest one:
If you paid attention at all in elementary school, you should realize that this is not a new issue. The more water surface on the earth we have, the more it will warm due to the Sun's energy (ice reflects, water absorbs). This argument is the biggest contributor to global warming hands down. You can say that greenhouse gasses, Industries, certain countries, COWS (which produce more pollution than cars) or whatever contributes to this, but you can't easily dispute that this concept is what affects the earth's climate more than anything else.
The melting of the icecaps creates more water which in turn, creates more surface area that will absorb the Sun's energy. It's no understatement that this could be a potentially serious problem yet, this same process has been going on for quite a long time. hrm.. maybe even since the Ice Age? It's a simple case of exponential law. I think you would be hard-pressed to find a scientist who would disagree that it wasn't all that long ago that the Earth was, in large part, covered in ice. This same process of warming the ocean is what has put us where we are today (livable conditions!). Some would argue that it's a cycle. A lot of the ' Global Warming' scare tactics out there do nothing but make the paranoid masses spend money to be more 'Green' (read: green = hip).
Many Celebs are hopping on the 'Green' train, spending unbelievable amounts of money modifying their homes to become more environmentally friendly'. But how much will it actually affect the Environment? I don't think I'm going out on a limb stating that these very minor adjustments in personal energy consumption will have any affect whatsoever, long or short term to the environment.
Personally, I think it's a matter of trends. Just like the Market auto-corrects itself, Mother Earth will also (to a certain extent anyway). Don't get me wrong, I'm all for being aware of your personal consumption of energy or anything else for that matter. Waste is well, ... wasteful. But I really don't think that even clamping down on all US companies and their CO2 output is enough to stop or even slow the melting of the icecaps. If you do that.. what will the 'Save the rain forests!' people say when the rain forests start dying from lack of CO2? Heck, China is polluting the atmosphere more than the US nowadays (as it should, since it is at their prime age of industrialism). Statistically, and scientifically speaking (Wootieously, of course), the growing surface area of all that blue stuff is a far more powerful contributor to Global Warming than all other factors combined. Yet many say that we find ourselves in this predicament due to industrialism over the decades. Everyone completely ignores the natural warming of the planet from the centuries of Ice covered land. Of course if it wasn't ignored it would pretty much make this whole post a mute point.
...Maybe all those wanna-be environmentalist Celebs could use their money to make a giant sunshade for the Polar Caps instead. That'd at least be addressing the real problem. But seriously, finding a way to weaken or dissolve the Greenhouse gases that are already in the troposphere is where we should be spending resources, if only to slow the process and make our lives a bit more cool. .. Although, that could cause drastic climate changes in the opposite direction also. ... If i have to choose, I'll take warming over cooling.
Hrm, maybe we should just let Mother Nature do what she does, while we silly humans try to somehow be more efficient with what's left of the World's resources. Realistically though, not by creating irrelevant fads, trends, or scare tactics like some of those 'green' ones among us. Buying a different lightbulb isn't going to do jack crap.
